Baby Product Recalls

This page will be updated often to inform you of baby products that have been recalled due to safety concerns. See www.cpsc.gov for additional information.

In April 2010, McNeil Consumer Healthcare voluntarily recalled all lots of certain Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, and Benadryl infant and children's over-the-counter liquid pain, fever, and allergy medications due to concerns over their quality - some of the products include higher concentrations of ingredients than indicated and some may contain contaminants. No adverse medical effects have been reported at this time but parents and caregivers are advised to stop using the affected products. For more information, please visit www.mcneilproductrecall.com or http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm210443.htm.

In April 2010, The Gap voluntarily recalled approximately 7,000 of its baby swimsuits sold in the U.S. and Canada. Parents are advised to stop using the product and return it to the Gap for a full refund. The recalled swimsuits (style number 706260 in blue and white, and style number 700452 in red and white) have halter straps that are too short and, thus, cause the plastic ring located at the neck of the swimsuit to press against children’s throats and obstruct their airway, potentially posing a strangulation hazard. There have been no injuries so far. For more information, please visit www.cpsc.gov.

In March 2010, Graco voluntarily recalled all of its Harmony brand high chairs that were manufactured between November 2003 and December 2009. The recall affects approximately 1.2 million units. Consumers are advised to stop using these high chairs immediately because screws holding the front legs of the chair can loosen or fall out and/or plastic brackets on the rear legs can crack, in both cases causing the chair to become unstable and potentially tip over. There have been 646 incident reports resulting in 24 injuries ranging from bumps and bruises to the head to cuts and scratches to the body. Check the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission web site at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml10/10171.html for the affected model numbers.

In February 2010, The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Britax, recalled approximately 14,000 Britax Blink Umbrella Strollers. The hinge mechanism of the stroller may potentially cause fingertip amputation or laceration to children when the stroller is being unfolded or opened. Consumers are advised to stop using the product.

In December 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Amby Baby USA, recalled approximately 24,000 Amby Baby Motion Beds as a result of two infant suffocation deaths resulting from the use of the baby hammock. Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately.

In December 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Amby Baby USLaJobi Inc., recalled approximately 400 of its "Molly" and "Betsy" cribs as a result of at least one infant suffocation death resulting from the entrapment of an infant's head in the headboard cut-out of the crib.

In November 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., recalled approximately 2.1 million Stock Craft drop-side cribs as a result of possible breakage of the drop-side plastic, allowing infants and toddlers to potentially become entrapped between the drop-side and the mattress, potentially leading to suffocation.

In November 2009, Maclaren USA recalled approximately one million strollers due to laceration and fingertip amputation hazard presented by the strollers' hinge mechanisms. The recall involves all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers (Volo, Triumph, Quest, Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, Techno XLR, Twin Trumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller models). Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled strollers and contact Maclaren USA to receive a free repair kit.
